No car stuff this weekend but I did go get the world’s finest home entertainment instrument. Don’t believe me?
That’s right. Just look at this baby!
It even has four channels.
I picked this up years ago but I didn’t have any place to put it the last few places I’ve lived. Now it’s home again. It even sounded better than I remember. It still needs some cleaning up but I couldn’t resist putting on a record. Naturally I cranked up a little Free Bird. It seemed appropriate (and I don’t have a lot of vinyl left)

Very cool. I’ve always wanted one of those.

This one has aux in jacks so I could add a CD player or iPod to it if I wanted but I doubt I do it. I already have a modern receiver for that. Maybe a reel-to-reel...

Yep, and it is an old school weight too. That wood is heavy. I guess it’s a good thing it’s “solid state” and not tubes.

The big question is if it can utilize those 4 channels for quadraphonic
albums, and if you have any

The answers are an emphatic “Yes!” and a disappointed “no”. I’m also not sure if it has a stylus for quad sound but if it did it would play quadraphonic.

I had something like this when I was a kid - the old couple across the street gave it to me when cleaning out their rec room. I think my mom wanted to kill me when I dragged it home - I don’t recall how I moved it, but I did. It had amazingly deep sound, and I even somewhat enjoyed the baroque 60s plood design. I had to replace the stylus, and from then on it had no problems. I think it might still be at my mom’s place somewhere.

It does have a deep full sound . My wife remarked on how it sounds different than modern systems but not in a bad way. I remembered it sounding muddy but it wasn't at all.

My grandfather had something like that in his basement . I’m pretty sure it was a bit broken though, touching the spindle gave a small shock (felt like licking a 9V battery), but presumably it was more powerful since it did that through dry skin.

Just a bit of a ground problem, eh? Sounds fun.

And the memories come crashing back! We had a console system when I was a kid. I loved that thing. It disappeared when we moved to an apartment. I wonder what my mom did with it.

Cool! What does "timbre" adjust?

I’ve been trying to figure that out. With a little googling it seems that it’s probably frequencies above the treble control. It’s weird that the bass and treble are four position switches while the timbre is a potentiometer but I guess the circuitry for these things is very different than we’re used to.
